What is your favorite city for music and what bands did the city produce? Obviously there are cities like NYC and LA that have thousands of bands but what about other cities around the world that have produced great music. I'm definitely a big Manchester fan but being from Seattle I've got to go with my hometown.

Notable Bands/Artists from Seattle:

Jimi Hendrix
Heart
Queensryche
Robert Cray
Pearl Jam
Nirvana
Alice in Chains
Mad Season
Soundgarden
Candlebox
Temple of the Dog
Screaming Trees
Mudhoney
Mother Love Bone
Brad
Sweet Water
Hole
The Presidents of the United States of America
Harvey Danger
Modest Mouse
Seaweed
Grunt Truck
Ben Harper
The Posies
Tad
The Melvins
The Wailers
Sir Mix-a-lot
Death Cab for Cutie (Bellingham)

There's also a strong case for another 'Irish' city ;-)
Liverpool

The Beatles
Echo & The Bunnymen
Teardrop Explodes
The Mighty Wah!
The Coral
The Zutons

At least one of the above made a noteable contribution to popular music as we know it.
