"The horror...The horror..." as the famous Brando quote goes. I never thought I could equate 'horror' at the amount of time it's taken to get my iPod.
I'm sure there's been longer waits, but when you've been lusting over a little bundle of white joy from afar, you suddenly feel time is against you.
It all started after I came into some money - redundancy in fact. Lucky me, I found a new job pdq, luckier than most I'd say. To celebrate I fancied something cool, something that would give me utmost joy, something to remember my redundancy money by (other than a holiday to the USA!) So my quest began for an iPod.
In end (and call me a 'fool' if you like...) I ordered direct from Apple. It was soooo tempting to get it etched for a few extra quid, but given the time delay difference in the order, I chose not to. With a smile and a skip in my step my order was placed...
Days passed...still the status of my order said "Being Assembled" Okay, quality I can expect but DAYS??? A quick email to Apple and they soon responded. Stock problems. Fair enough, I'd been to John Lewis (Dept. Store) and they had none. Their order was well overdue too. Looks like I had to wait even longer.
This Monday, almost two weeks after ordering, another email from Apple - my iPod had been born and was ready to rock and roll...from Taipei. Now, in all my research I negated to check where these little blighters actually come from. Silly me thought it would be Ireland - where my order was placed. Luckily (?) I could view the tracking of my little beast as it wings it's way over much land and water.
How slow it seems when the status changes from...
Flight Assigned (sounds good...)
Data Received from Supplier (whatever...)
Boxes Scanned (woo hoo, I've got more than one!)
Departed from Product Source (gets better...)
Custom Cleared (cool...the little guy ain't carrying weed!)
Flight Departed
...and that's where it ends. OK, it's a heck of a long way from Taipei to Heathrow, but I'm getting really impatient now! I'm almost checking the website hourly. Even in my new job I'm feeling guilty at stealing moments to update it's impending arrival!
Deep down, I think it'll be Friday (two days time) before it arrives, I can't see it happening any sooner. Funnily enough, even though I've got about 6gb of tunes all ready I'm not going to start ripping my CD's until it arrives...don't ask why, it's just one of those silly things you do.
I've already bought the Dr.Bott's Connection Kit for the car and stereo...I'm getting new earphones (Sony MD-REX71SLB) and I haven't even got the iPod yet...I'm surprised I haven't got an alternative soft case for it, it's the only thing left to get (for UK people) I think.
I don't think I've ever waited, agonised, slavered over something ever. Not even my first sexual encounter. Still, I'm sure the wait will even be better than that!
