Basically, I'm looking for opinions on a good clear, hard case.
It'll be for a 3rd gen 20gig.

Going to be using it in my car and I don't want to just sit my bare ipod into a mount. I have an iSkin right now. and thats great for those times I need to take the subway and sitting at work but it tends to "stick" to surfaces (pockets, won't slide on a desk etc), which isn't preferable if I just want to slip it in and turn it on.

I would prefer something that's completely clear (or mostly anyway). I want to be able to see the ipod rather than white plastic case. And hopefully the thinest possible.

Is this a lot to ask?

oh, I'm going to fabricate my own mount/cradle for it and use it with the Belkin Auto Kit (lighter/line out).

That is all. Thanks.

Take a look at the Xtrememac Xtremity (http://www.xtrememac.com/foripod/xtremity.shtml) might be the thing for you - it even has a carmount kit available...

You might also want to consider the Speck FlipStand:

I have the speck flipstand and love it. Instead of using the whole insert pad (has to be used to fit 10/15/20gb iPods) I cut four rectangles out of it and stuck them in each corner. Works great.
