iPod freezing iTunes or iTunes freezing iPod?

I have read tons of posts about people having iTunes freeze at some point, but no explanations of what is wrong or how to fix it...

I am having a similar problem as others when I try to move songs from iTunes (4.5 version) to my 40G iPod (current update). It loads some songs with no trouble, and then just freezes up the entire machine (Win2000). Sometimes I get an error regarding an "Open Door" on the drive or something??? This makes no sense to me... I can either cancel, try again, or continue. The result is always the same though, FROZEN and only a ctrl/alt/del or reboot to start over...

My Library only has 950 songs/3.2gigs, so I can't imagine it being too large... Please help... any suggestions??? Is it my iTunes, my iPod, my iSettings, my iCrappy PC, or my iDiot... ????

Some other maybe useful info... On initial link up between iPod and PC, it loaded approx 100 songs before freezing... Since then, iTunes shows it loads anywhere from 30-50 songs before freezing. However, once I have disconnected the USB from the iPod to the PC, the iPod has only added 3 songs...

Yes, the iPod says "do not disconnect" but the PC is doing nothing cause iTunes has it all frozen... ctrl/alt/del just takes it to blue screen of death and then time to reboot...

No trouble using iTunes to manage files or copy CD's into it, or use it as a player, only messes up while writing to the iPod... Any iDeas ???
