Ipod hangs my PC

Well. i connect the ipod to my fireqire, and it hangs my PC, it did this on XP origina, SP1 and SP2, just tried it at a friend. it hangs there too. any tips on how to make it work :S?. can u reset it without using the PC?. so it get's a fresh start?.

And ye, when the problem started it just missed all my MP3. they are stil on the ipod. kinda strange but :S
