newbie confusion

Hey guys,

I'm about to buy an iPod, but I'm a little confused

1) If I have a Dell Latitude laptop (Running XP), do I need to buy a USB cable to load songs onto the iPod, or do I already have a firewire port?

2) Does iTunes upload songs onto the iPod or do I need additional software? All of my files are AAC 128k, including the ones I bought from iTMS. Does it cost anything?

Maybe you do, maybe you don't. Dell's been making Latitudes for years, and even now some models have firewire (IEEE 1394) and some don't.

But with laptops, theres the issue of externally charging the iPod. Usually Firewire ports on laptops don't supply enough power, so you may need to somehow power the port externally. Not too sure on how to do this, but search around, there have been many others who have encountered this problem.

Yes, the four pin Firewire ports do NOT charge the iPod. But they still sync just fine. Just charge it externally. Its not a big deal.
