Just got a 3G ipod ( Apple replaced a 2G that they couldn't fix) and in the package there is a part that I don't know what it is for and was hoping that someone could shed some light on it for me. It is part number 591-0080 ( according to the plastic around it ) It is some sort of adapter with a female firewire plug on one end and a male on the other. What does this do for the ipod. Any suggestions.

Chris

I believe you are refering to the 6pin to 4pin Firewire adaptor. It lets you use the firewire sync cable with the 4 pin plugs (commonly found on Laptops).

Be aware that a 4pin port will not charge the iPod.

You can also go to apple.com support section and download the user's guide for your new 3g if they did not send you one with it.
