I don't know about an international warranty, but Apple includes a one year warranty on all iPods. Some retailers will also sell you extended warranties. Best Buy has a very good extended warranty, but they're customer service and customer experience is horrid. CompUSA is also another option but they too have terrible customer service; and have been known to lie about their extended warranties. In my opinion, if the one year warranty from Apple is sufficient for you, would be to go to an Apple store. The people there are so friendly and helpful, and leave you alone to use the products (as opposed to staring at it through plate glass). The experience is just so superior to any other retailer out there. Then again if you know what you want, the customer service and store experience may not be that important to you.
Hmmm...Customer service at Best Buy really depends on the store--my local Best Buy has been absolutely outstanding, as I am on Ipod number three (Got number one in December). And I have heard of some not so friendly Apple stores--so check into it before you decide, to see what the reputation of your local stores are.
Bottom line: IMHO, some type of extended warranty is well worth it, and I ordinarily don't get them. (If you go the Apple store route, you can still get a 2 year TAP from CompUSA). My ipod's are averaging 3 months before dying. I was lucky enough to get the 4 yr Best Buy PSP for $40.00, averages out to ten dollars a year. My 20 gigger died in March, they gave me a new one the same day. The new one died a couple of days ago, they're giving me a brand new 30 gigger tomorrow (they didn't have one in stock, but special ordered one for me--I called today, it will be in later tonight). Unfortunately, they now only apparently offer two year psp's, but you might check to see if you can get the four year one--I'm guaranteed a functional ipod for four years, for forty bucks, no matter how many I go through--and although I treat them well, at the rate I'm going through them, in four years, I'll be on ipod number sixteen....

Oddly, someone came in a few days ago and purchased a 10gb Ipod, and the plan was a 2yr PRP. However, I sold a 30gb, and the plan was a 4yr PSP...so you're 30 should be covered for 4yrs.
Ask for the 4yr specifically--maybe they're still offering it. It's well worth it if they are...

Your on your ipod number 3? Surely swapping an ipod every 3 months on average is not acceptable? I brought a 30 gigger and 7 days later it went kaput....i received a replacement straight away, (assuming it was a one off fault) but its seems like most people are expectin em to break down again at some point??
It is a crackin product but surely apple need to sort it out...
Well, that's exactly why I got the 4 year PSP...Hard drives are delicate by nature; miniaturizing it then making it portable only compounds that. But I love my ipod, it get's a ton of use (although I baby it), and I'm willing to put up with the malfunctions provided I can get it replaced. After going through 2 already, that 4 year PSP is looking better and better...;)

when your ipod dies, don't you get a new warranty? ie... if your ipod dies 1 day before your warranty is up and you receive a new one under warranty, won't it extend for another year??

No. I believe the policy is that you will get the remaining 1 day plus 90 days warranty on the replacement. But if it dies at the halfway point you would only get the remaining 6 months of the 1 year warranty.
It is all down to interpretation of the warranty system but I believe this is Apples policy on replacements.
As always I am willing to be corrected.

i see.... wonder if best buy will offer the extended warranty if i bring them my ipod that's brand new in the box and still sealed....
Only if you bought it from Best Buy AND it's been less than 30 days since you purchased it...
