I have seen a dozen topics of this and I still can't find the right answer. Does the ipod sync act like a palm sync. Where as it looks at time and date stamps and updates from that? The reason I am asking is I want to sync my ipod with computer at work and home, but I don't want it to upload dupes to my ipod. Thanks for your help.

When set to auto sync, iTunes will only copy new songs to your iPod and delete any songs from the iPod that you've deleted from iTunes. So, your iPod will have the exact same set of songs as you have in iTunes. This also means that you then cannot sync with another computer when you use auto sync. With auto sync enabled, if you connect your iPod to another computer running iTunes, iTunes will ask if you want to then auto sync your iPod with the iTunes library on that computer. If you say "yes", it will delete any songs on your iPod and copy down the ones from that computer instead.

The only way to have songs on your iPod from more than one computer is to use manual sync mode. In manual mode, you just copy the songs you want onto your iPod manually. You also delete songs off your iPod manually. iTunes will not do anything automatically (add or delete) in this case.

Edit: Just wanted to add one more thing. You were asking for a comparison between the iPod sync and a PDA sync. One other big difference with the iPod sync is that the sync only goes one way. That is, songs are never copied from your iPod to iTunes. Unlike a PDA which syncs both ways.
