Hello all:

I've downloaded iTunes onto my new laptop. What is my next step to hook up my iPod? Do I need to install any iPod software? It's been so long, I've forgotten! Also, how to make sure I don't auto-sync on first connect?

Thanks
Daddo

You shouldn't need to install any software except iTunes. Does your laptop have a firewire port? If not, do you have the USB cable for your iPod (if it's 3G)?

When you first connect your iPod to a new computer (such as your laptop) running iTunes, iTunes will ask you if you want to auto sync with it. Just indicate "no" to keep it from auto syncing with it.

Thanks Shadow - I'm all groovy now - but couple of questions for you now that I've downloaded your agent:

1. I have a setup.msi on my desktop - is that part of the agent?
2. I ran the agent and got a message about enabling disk use - not sure what this is about but i was able to import music on to my hard drive - do I need to set something?
3. Is there a "select all" or does one have check each song to import?
4. finally, I've run consolidate in iTunes but it did not add the tracks to the iTunes library automatically - I "added file" - isn't it supposed to?

thanks man!

1. Setup.msi is just the install program. Once it's installed, you can delete that.

2. iPod Agent requires that the iPod has "disk mode enabled" checked in the iPod Options (get to it by right-clicking on your iPod in iTunes under the Source menu and selecting "options") - but, since you say you were able to use iPod Agent, it must already be set so you should be ok.

3. Yes. Right-click in the song list anywhere and a little menu will pop-up to allow you to "check all" or "uncheck all".

4. I don't follow this question. Consolidate? I've never heard of that in iTunes.
