disconnecting ipod

somtimes i forget to stop my ipod when turn my pc off and on my ipod it still says "do not disconnect"

is it safe to disconnect or should i start the pc up and then stop the ipod then shut down my pc

It should be ok, next time though just try to eject it within windows.
