I have the following specs:

XP Pro
20 GB
2 Generation
Connecting using Firewire

When I connect my iPod to my computer, it does not seem to recognize my iPod. Exploer, or the taskmanager, or iTunes (v4.5) doesn't seem to recognize my iPod. When I connect my iPod starts up showing the apple logo then proceds to the "OK to disconnect" message. It shows in the top right the battery charging indicated that power is comming from the firewire port. Any suggestions? How do I restore my iPod if I can not get my computer to recognize my iPod? I will try and I reinstall iPod software and possibly iTunes.

Did you install the latest firmware?

Has the iPod been formatted for Windows? If it is formatted for Mac, Windows won't recognize it.

Well I solved the problem. I tried another firwire port, one in the back of my computer. And that seemed to do the trick. I restored my iPod to factory settings and updated to the newest firmware. Everything is ok now. Just strange how my front side firwire port doesn't want to coperate. I don't know how this will help other users in this situation other than to try other firwire ports.

Edit: Earlier I also tried restarting my iPod while it was connectected via the menu + play/pause. My PC has all the latest MS updates.
