I'm new to the headphones being crappy quality or really goo. Right now I use a set of Sonys that wrap around the back of my head the model is MDR-G52. Are these ok? I think they sound good but I have never listened through any of the headphones usually mentioned here. Should a switch to something else? If so, whats the best I van get for $60?

Check out the Senn MX100 vs. 200 thread. That's one place to look. I haven't tried others.

Ace you mean PX100 vs PX200! :)
I remember reading over at www.head-fi.com that basically all of the sony "street-style" headphones are below par.
As stated above look at the PX100 or PX200 (the MX100/200 do exist, but they are very cheap quality ear buds).
PX200 is good for sound isolation, but really only work if they create a good seal on your ears.
PX100 are better sounding, but they are open, so sound leaks out and people around you can hear your music - and so more sound comes in as well.

I use the Sony MDR EX71s and have found them top class. They cost 50 euros which I think is more than 50 dollars at the moment. The sound is typical Sony, a little bit weak in the middle but the outside sound isolation is very good so it makes it easier to hear the music. They are very comfortable to wear as well. I use mine with the iPod remote as it comes with an extension cable.
