I finally decided to get the 15GB today rather than the mini, and picked it up at the Apple Store in Soho. I bought the Contour Showcase as well, and when I get got home and took it out of the plastic wrapping noticed some scratches on the plastic front of the Showcase, particularly near the buttons. Since it's a bit of a trip for me to return it I was wondering if this is normal? The scratches seem to be on the surface of the plastic, but you can definitely see them. Thanks!

ALso - I know you can sync and charge with the iPod in the case (as long as you are not using the dock) - is there any reason not to do that? I plan to keep the iPod in the case as much as possible to protect it.

yes, i have the little scratches too. not that big of a deal.
also you want to take it out of the case when you are charging it since it will not dock with the apple dock thingy, also it is better for the ipod not to overheat, cause that can happen whil it is in the case. Thank you. goo dnight.

I was in the Apple store today - wanted to exchange the Showcase for an unstratched one - and noticed that they all had scratches/little cracks near the holes. So I returned mine, not sure what to do, and went over to another store - I looked at their cases and they all had the same scratches near the holes. At that point I wasn't about to go to a third store, so I bought one - what made it worthwhile was that their price was about $8 less than Apple's.
By the way, what is the best way to clean this case?
aghh scratches suck. Just buy the apple case.
I in fact called Contour about these scratches, with a story that sounds much the same as yours. What they told me suprised me. It's a part of their manufacturing process. Aparently, these aren't scratches as much as how they mold the plastic, and it appears on all models.

It gets scratched to hell soon after you buy it anyway :D
I love my Showcase. It's great how you can throw the iPod around (figuratively) without any worries. I just wish there was some way of making it dockable.

From time to time I remove my iPod from the Showcase and then I dunk the case in a sink full of warm, soapy water. A bit of rubbing with a washcloth (which also has some soap on it) cleans the case up nicely. Other people "touch-up" dirty spots on the case with a damp washcloth, while the iPod is still in the case.
