I've posted elsewhere about some problems I am having with noises (chirps and cheeps etc) during playback. I'm still trying to trace the problem and it would be useful to make my configuration as close to 'standard' as possible.

If another EAC + LAME + XPlay user is reading this and doesn't have a problem with noises on Playback could you do me a favour...

Post your EAC compression settings i.e. which LAME version/compilation, what command line options or presets, whether you use the executable and/or dll etc. This would really help me narrow things down further.

Cheers.

Im not sure if this will help but, since the ipod is basically a hard drive it makes those noises when its accessing the harddrive to find a song or to use the extras and so on.

I've had similar problems with EAC and Lame. I don't have my complete settings handy, but I distinctly remember one thing:

Using VBR produced MP3s with pops and chirps as you say -- when I went to fixed rate, all was better. I encode at 224 and the MP3s sound great.

I'll post my complete settings when I get home.

Was wondering if you (or anybody else) have an opinion on Joint Stereo -- I've read things pro and con, but never really tested it out to see which (if either) is better. I don't think I'm using it, and to my ears the MP3s sound fine.

I don't know, I just got my iPod and I haven't had any problem with VBR Lame Encoded files. I encode with EAC + LAME --r3mix for optimum sound quality.
