Hi I'm not sure if this is a common issue, but whenever I put iTunes on Shuffle it seems to more or less play the same songs. Even if I go restart iTunes and then play it on Shuffle. Maybe I'm just paranoid. Anybody else?

If you shutdown iTunes and restart iTunes, then shuffle play your whole library, iTunes keeps on picking the same song over and over again? It never happen with me. What version of iTunes are you using? If you are using iTunes 4.5, are you using Party Shuffle? I like it much more than the normal shuffle the library.

I'll try party shuffle, maybe I'm just paranoid. I also tend to skip tracks sometimes.

iTunes shuffle does annoyingly play songs from the same albums or the same artist often.

Firmware 2.2 to does that too. It seems to lock onto an album for a few songs and then switch again...

It seems like the random generator is stuck on the number 2 <heh>
The "randomness" of intune and ipod dont seem to be as good as winamp or media player 9.
It's not really that big a thing for me, I'll just hit next.

First of all, note that you can reshuffle by option-clicking the shuffle button in iTunes. I don't know what key you have to hold on a PC.
Now folks, random means random. Sometimes it may be several related tracks in a row, and sometimes it may be something else. I take issue with the claim that there is such a thing as "bad random" because a randomizer could conceivably generate any possible sequence, be it one you like or one you don't.
Maybe WinAmp or WMP isn't true random, but actually is intentionally coded to avoid picking similar songs in a row?

Thanks for the replies, the party shuffle is cool. I tried holding Shift, Ctrl and Alt with clicking on Shuffle while listening to my library and nothing happened. Maybe I have to be listening to a playlist.

Shift clicking shuffle reshuffles in normal playlists/library I think.
This is my observation:
The shuffle option is indeed random, and like the person above, I believe that there is not a "bad random." It's simply coincidence when ITunes selects a couple songs by the same artist in a row.
That being said - I have noticed that if I go to a playlist, let's call it Playlist X, and Playlist X contains exactly the same songs as it did yesterday (I did not add or subtract any songs out of the list), if I select the same song to play first (e.g., the first song on the list) then I will hear the exact same "random" set of songs I heard yesterday in the exact same order. There's obviously a method to the randomness. This problem is easily avoided simply by selecting a different song to play first. Anyone else notice this?
