View Full Version : IDs and MyRatings
Qn.
When i add a "MyRating" to a track in iTunes, is the rating info written/stored in the ID tags on the mp3/aac file or is it stored in the iTunes Music Library file?

Unfortunately, it's only stored in the iTunes database (and on the iPod if you use syncing).
It's not written to the mp3/aac tag (although it should be).

I use a work-around for this issue. Basically I use the grouping tag to store my ratings. See my post here for more details: http://ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=31073

Interesting. Is the grouping tag really an ID3 feature (I know Comments *IS*)? I thought that Grouping was another iTunes-XML-specific field, which would render your neato suggestion un-neato. I suspect I'm just dead wrong here, though.
EDIT: Further research has found that the Grouping field indeed maps to ID3. Grouping data resides in the 'Content group description' ID3 frame (field) for both AAC and MP3. Hooray!! :D
