Have I missed this all along?
Or can I now choose "playlist" among first criteria for a SPL. Maybe I was blind before...

You are not blind. 'Tis true. Should make for some fun and interesting playlists we couldn't create before. I'm already experimenting and will share with the group. So far one I have created is...
Match any of the following criteria
Playlist is "5-stars" (that separate list being "Rating is 5 stars")
Genre is Rock
Genre is Pop
Last played is is not within the last 7 days.
Chris
Edit: OK, experimenting away. Not so fun and interesting as I once thought. There's still a problem with any criteria where you are trying to include two different genres in one playlist.....frustrating.

Yeah i had hoped that had been "fixed" to include "either" Oh well.
My ultmiate goal is to have ALL playlists as SPLs. When I have time I'll post results of my trials.
Chris, you'd have to create two playlists based on genres e.g. genre Rock and genre Electronic - then create another one with "any" criteria checked.
Besides that I'd have to say that Apple has AGAIN favoured those who automatically update or those with their tunes on their HDs- since it is STILL NOT POSSIBLE to see my OTG playlist in the source list in iTunes and since the Party shuffle option makes absolutely NO SENSE to me as I have only 300 songs in my itunes library. :(

What would happen if two smart playlists are set as filtering criteria of each other?

The resulting implosion would collapse into a black hole that causes the entire universe to compress into a singularity, which would make you and everyone you know cease to exist and drastically reduce your iPod's battery life. So don't try it. :D
Seriously, if the only criterion in each playlist is "playlist is (name of other playlist)," I'd think it would be treated just like a blank playlist, i.e., nothing would happen.

stupid Q, how do you make an SPL?

yes!!
it's totally awesome that the playlist option appears under SPL's. i have a manual playlist which features songs that i heard throughout my grade school career. with the new SPL playlist feature, i can reference that 'Grade School' playlist and narrow it down to the best ones within it, ie. 4 and 5 star rated songs. this makes the SPL 'Top Grade School'.
keep it comin, Apple!!!
Jason :)

If in iTunes - go to File > New Smart Playlist > set certain criteria or conditions and see what list comes up on your ipod or iTunes library.
Napalm_Fire, your sig is REALLY cool but I doubt it's within the limits of the allowed size! :) Check the form guidelines please.

Well it's about timet that they got Playlist as a criteria. I just wish they would finish the job w/Smartlists. It drives me crazy that the other good apps out there have it and all apple need do is copy them!
C'mon already....
But anyway, I was able to find a workaround to the "either" issue.
Smartlist #1:
Genre is Rock
or
Genre is Pop
Smartlist #2
Playlist is Smartlist #1
and
My Rating >= 3
This gives you:
All Rock or Pop tunes that have a rating Greater than 3.
Now, this should be do-able with just one Smartlist, Apple has chosen to complicate things, but at least it now can be accomplished.

Napalm_fire: dunno much about the hosting part - all I know is that the limit is 5 kb.
*Adam, I've already found that possibility - great!
