I'm wondering if anyone has installed an iPod in a Scion XA. the FM transmitter i have gives quite bad sound quality so i want direct input into the Pioneer sound system (standard model) that comes w/the XA.

Scion doesn't want to give any info on getting behind the dash or doing any mods. i wish they would just build an iPod dock into the car...its supposed to be for young urban "hipsters"....

so how to do it myself?

i think the Pioneer CD-RB10 will let me add an auxiliary source to my CD player?

http://www.sounddomain.com/shop/item.pl?sku=PIOCDRB10

and this link
http://tonytalkstech.com/2004/04/custom_car_install_for_your_ipod_mini.php
describes adding an iPod to a Ford....he "connected the iPod mini to my Pioneer car stereo using the CD-RB10 adapter, which connects to the L+R audio output RCAs from the iPod mini using the line-out from the Belkin car charger. I added two extra cigarette lighter adapters to plug in the car charger and the LEDs."

looks like i'll be trying some of this.

am wondering if anyone has already done this themselves?

any info would greatly be appreciated and i'll post more as i make (hopefully) progress.

There is no way to add a line in to the Scion's headunit. Yes, the unit is a pioneer, the only input it has is an XM radio input - which is toyota specific, so no pioneer adapter will fit.

It doesn't have an input for a cd-changer because if you select that option for your vehicle, you get another Pioneer headunit with the 6-disc cd changer integrated into the unit.

It sucks, I know - I have a Scion xB, and it looks liek we're going to have to resort purchasing new headunits that have the features we want. Check out http://www.scionlife.com :)

Any more word on this subject? I just bought a 05 XA and I'm curious if I will still have to use my Itrip for the forseeable future. On my old car, I accidently broke of the antenna while slipping on some ice so the recepetion on the itrip was fantastic as it wasn't getting any other signals!

I wonder how much i will wind up spending to get either the Alpine or the other one installed.

I googled 'ipod your scion' a while ago and found a like with the scion pres. who said they had plans to make an 'ipod your scion' feature.

So, how do you like your XA? If you have negative things to say about it, I don't want to hear it. Mine should arrive in a couple of weeks!

Q: Are you continuing to develop new accessories?
A: We'll add a turbocharger for the xA and xB and a supercharger for the tC. We also plan to add accessories that focus on music and music management, such as a feature that will let you connect your iPod to your Scion stereo so you don't have to re-record your favorite music.

I had a PAC Aux-Pod in my single disc Scion before I switched to a 2004 Camry Navigation radio. Worked great. You can also have aux-in with the aux-box.

See my post there for how to install an Ice>Link Plus or how to get to the stereo for at least curiosity's sake.

I use the Ice>link and its great...I set it up on the iPod interface so the text doesnt come up, but I really never fiddled around with it. I'm going to after work though now that I've read on here that there's other modes.
