simple question for auto charger owners

I'm thinking of getting the belkin auto charger for long drives, was just wondering when the ipod is plugged into the auto charger, does the auto charger power and charge the ipod at the same time when the ipod is in use or is the ipod charged only when not in use?

this is important because i'd like to listen to the ipod while driving but be able to have a fully charged ipod when i reach my destination...

It will charge regardless of whether or not the iPod is in use. However, just like the dock, it charges faster if the iPod is not in use.
