I also have a Pioneer HU (Premier 640) and just bought the IP-Bus adapter.
I'm planning on using the belkin auto kit and hard wiring it to the vehicle and connecting the output to the IP-Bus adapter. I'm not going to install a dock, just use a cradle.

I also have a pioneer hu and the Ibus adapter. I use the belkin auto kit for the line out, why don't you start out with this, if you want to add a dock it will be easy later. If you find you don't need it then it won't be a problem and you will save 30-40 dollars.
kyonic,
Your power source might not be grounded properly. I've heard of hissing and excessive noise problems when a proper ground was not setup. Either ground the power source or get a ground loop isolator.

I have a Pioneer Premiere (DEH-740MP) head unit and the CD10 ip-bus adapter as well. My system sounds wonderful. You need to turn the iPod's volume up to about 90-95% or so to get a decent signal strength. You could also use a dock (no power source needed for it to work) or any other line out available to get a better signal. It should just then be a matter of making sure all the connections are secure and that there is no interference from power/antennae wires causing a problem. Also make sure your HU is grounded properly. Using the dock's line out my HU volume is just as loud with teh ipod as it is with cd's.

What is your output from the iPod? Are you using something like the Belkin Auto Kit or the SIK Imp? Both those solutions use the line out from dock connector instead of the headphone jack, and the sound quality is much better. I use the Imp with my Pioneer H/U and love it.
