View Full Version : Playing music through Dock outputs...?

Hi,

I think I may be missing something obvious here.

Scenario: 3G 40g iPod -> Dock -> Firewire Hub -> 4-pin Firewire connector -> Windows 2000 laptop.

I use the firewire hub because it can charge the iPod where the 4-pin connection cannot.

Everything works great, except when I drop the iPod in the dock, it goes to "Do Not Disconnect", no surprise there. If I click the iPod eject button in iTunes (or set iTunes to not sync automatically), I get the "OK to disconnect" message.

However, at this point, I still can't play music (out via the Dock's audio output). Then I try the Firewire eject from the Windows tray - again, it works fine, but the OK to disconnect screen does not go away until I physically lift the iPod out of the dock. If I drop it back in... the cycle starts all over again! :eek:

The only solution I have found that allows me to charge and play music simultaneously is to pull the Hub's Firewire plug from the laptop, while keeping the Dock plugged into the hub (killing my other Firewire devices).

Is this my only option, or have a missed something obvious?

Sorry this was so long-winded, you should have seen the first draft! :p

Thanks,

This is a "feature" of the 2.1 firmware. Nothing you can really do about it.

I was afraid of that, thanks Cameron_Talley.

I suppose the good news is if it came in with 2.1, it could go back out with 2.2... Maybe? ;)
