Since I don't know much about ipod and windows I can't help my friend who has this problem.

He has a 15g (recently bought) running on XP with firewire. For two or three months everything worked perfectly. All of a sudden, while attempting to transfer a few gigs of files, the ipod freezes. So far we have tried:

- reset and restore
- reinstalling itunes
- rebooting computer

and we have ruled out insufficient CPU since he can run other programmes next to itunes. The problem recurs.

The thing that bugs me is that it used to work fine, why would it suddenly stop working?
Could it be the firewire card? Should we try USB? Should I try to plug it into my ibook to see it also happens?

Any tips?

I had a similar problem a few months ago, after months of perfectly fine iPod usage I was hit with crashes and "Unknown Error -69" . . turns out i had one bad mp3 file that the iPod or the firewire card just didn't like (it was a Stephen Malkmus song, and the rest of the album worked fine . .)

my suggestion is to see if the crash happens aroudn the same song every time, and try taking those songs off the library.

Ive had the same problem, but i am using usb.
It works perfectly when sending a few songs, up to about 3 albums at a time, but when transferring a lot of songs at once [or large files as an external hdd] it freezes at a random spot, and windows says that i need to insert a disk into the drive.
The only way i have found to overcome this is to transfer small number of files at a time.

I think it happens no matter which songs he is trying to transfer. But I'll ask him.

Thanks a lot guys...
