Connecting/Disconnecting w/ iTunes/XP

I've got a 40gb 3G connected to a new high-end Sony w/ XP. Overall I haven't had many problems using iTunes and the iPod, but I've run into one thing I can't figure out. I usually just plug in my iPod, which launches iTunes, and everything's fine. When I'm done doing my thing, I eject my iPod. I'm wondering if there's a way to re-connect my iPod without shutting down iTunes again. Any suggestions?

If you click on the file dropdown you will see "update songs on iPod"

I usually undock my iPod and redock it. iTunes will then recognize the iPod again.
