Ok Guyz,
ive tried this like a month ago and im still waiting for some1 to help me,
i know your decent people so please lend me a hand...my problem is:
-----------
my ipod is not being read as connected to my PC not only by iTunes but by the restore thingy, cause ive tried to restore it from the updater thing and it saysy please connect iPod, even though the pod is connected.
but the pod is still charging when connected to pc, so that means the dock and actual firewire are working right?
ive heard people saying i need to assign the firewire port a different letter if running xp,
but guyz u assume i know how to do that? please tell me how? and i cant find anything called 'firewire' on my device list...is it called somethin else?
i am running a Sony VAIO pc, with Win XP OS, the firewire port is referred to as iLink...which is also not on device manager.....so please help me, i want to put new songs on iPod and yet im not being allowed to =(
-------------
thnx to peaople for at least reading this, and especially thnx to any1 who helps me....it would be much appreciated and id b very grateful.

CAn't really help because i dont know much about it, but firewire is also called IEEE 1394. It is most likely going to be called that in XP, as FireWire is Apple's name for the port.

Sony Vaio's name for the IEEE 1394 port is i.Link or something to that effect.

Hey guys Im having same problem. Let me tell you that the problem is with the Firewire Port. It has 6 pins and 6 contacts or(pathways) that lead to and are soldered on the motherboard. Inside on the motherboard an x number out of 6 have come unsoldered. Because only some came unsoldered the Ipod still charges but does send out a signal to the computer, hence no recognition from the Operating System. Unfortunately unless you have a soldering iron and background knowledge of circuits and contacts your outta of luck. But I found a website that can look at it and tell exactly what the problem is, or fix the FireWire Port issue
