Scrollwheel "select' button not working

I just got my new 3G 15G iPod today and I find that the select button in the middle of the scroll wheel does not work very well.

Sometimes it works fine but then other times it won't respond. Is this normal or is it something I should be worried about?

i get that sometimes too with my 3rd gen 20gb. i dont know why. i think it may be because the middle button is concave up, while the top 4 buttons are concave down, and for some reason i think it would affect it. but what do i know. i just know some times i hit the middle button, and i get no response, so ill stare at the screen for a couple seconds (sometimes the iPod has to read the hard drive to proceed to the next menu, and that can take a couple seconds) but if nothing happens, ill hit the button again, only more firmly.

I have this problem after syncing. I used to have to wait for about 15 min for it to start working again, but then I found you can just press the hold button on and then off again, and it'll work fine.
