Jan. 12, 2004 I purchased a Belkin USB 2.0 PCI card at compusa, for $29.99 - $10 MIR. As usual I scanned all my receipts, UPC and followed all the rebates rules exactly as needed.

I patiently waited for the 10 WEEKS to pass, still no rebate. I even checked their wheresmyrebate.com site, registered for it and now get a ton more spam as a result, thank you very much.

Well today I called them on their 800 number and the operator quickly found me in the system and simply said, "Oh yes sir, the Check will be mailed today sir" What is the delay, I asked. Oh the delay is from Belkin sir...... yeah right.

Rebates are a total scam, Not really In fact I have not missed one yet, but having to do due diligence and call these compaines is a supreme waste of time and energy for $10. I firmly believe part of the rebate strategy is first to expect most people to not file, lose the receipt whatever, but also to delay/deny legimately filed rebates and only actually send the rebates when a customer takes the time to challenge the system.

Do these companies really make that much money on unclaimed rebate or float dollars? Why don't they just pass legislation to ban all mail in rebate and lower the price and be fair to consumers.

12+ Week wait and only to mail out the rebate check AFTER a customer calls in to complain. I call that a scam.

BTW, still have not received the payment form Belkin.

If you think this is acceptable customer service, then you are part of the problem here.

Buddy thats why the system was created! I work at Circuit City and they get reports on how many rebates are actually claimed its almost 20% The system is setup intentionally for you not to get it.

thanks 'Buddy', but this equates to consumer fraud IMO. False promises, excess delays, unpaid claims. = bad for consumers.

Rebates are certainly in a grey area of legality. They're technically legal but in practice, people get ripped off a lot.

Acutally... compusa have been known to have the most unreliable rebate system. I keep track on my rebates because I'm a frugal shopper. I recieve all my rebates from Best buy, circuit city, and etc in a timely manner. I rarely get my compusa rebates, so I just don't shop their anymore.
