Hi,
A while ago I decided to buy Nirvana's Nevermind from the music store since I had liked the radio hits and because of the classic status the album now has. I figured buying it in iTunes would be quicker and cheeper than buying it in the store, but recently I've heard about a track called "Endless Nameless," apparently some new version of "Lithium," that's supposed to be hidden at the end of the album. However, this does not seem to be the case with the iTunes version, since there is nothing after "Something in the way." Does anyone know anything about this? I have to admit that having a collection of audio files sometimes doesn't seem the same as having the CD, especially for an album of this caliber. I don't know, maybe it's just me.
Thanks in advance.

I noticed that the Nine Inch Nails cd with the 99 tracks with the last 3 being actual songs doesn't have those extra songs.
Maybe the person preparing the files missed them or it was decided by the record company to hold them back.

Well, then, I guess I shouldn't be buying albums in the music store if that's the case. I certainly hope I don't have to buy the whole album again just to have that song.

In many cases, the band is either unwilling or unable to release the entire album, for either marketing or legal reasons. Downloading and cds are two different mediums and while they may be able to disribute it on cd, they arent able to do it online. The same is true for online only music.
Thankfully, not all albums are like this.

I don't understand why the band would have a problem distributing this. It's supposed to just be part of the last track.
After doing some more research, apparently some versions of the CD don't have the song and some do. Does anyone know more about this?

The sound quality on some of the songs on the iTunes version I had was pretty poor, especially the beginning of "Breed." Since I didn't actually pay for the iTunes version (long story), I decided to pick up the actual CD. The track is not included. Oh well.

I've got that track on the end of my Nevermind CD, (bought it about a year after it was released) didn't even know it was there
According to the FreeDB tags I got via foobar it is called Endless Nameless.
Usually I pay attention incase CD's have bonus tracks and split them with a WAV editor to save space, must have missed that one.

It is on most pressings of the CD, but not as a separate track. "Something in the way" ends and there is about 12 min. of silence, then "Endless Nameless" begins. If you rip a CD you will not get the name of the last 'song' from CDDB as it is not its own track.
Another note, ( I have never looked into this before now ) on Cracker's "kerosene hat" you can only get one of the hidden tracks, if you buy the whole album, but they are missing, i think, two other hidden tracks.
Now this makes sense, you SHOULD only be granted access to hidden tracks if you purchase the entire album. Even though in this day of instant song access, it seems redundant to listen to silence. But when "Nevermind" came out i shure thought it was cool.
This is odd. Another brain-washing techique from apple.
