View Full Version : ipod will suffer under extreme conditions
and i need a case to protect it!
ill be skating street with my ipod, and i sure do fall a lot
so i need a case that will protect it from abuse... yet still be operatable while inside the case.. so no matis armor
i was thinkin... showcase? or evo?
hrmm... maybe those cases wont even protect the ipod from a 140 pound guy falling with it onto concrete...
ideas?

The iSkin eVo is the best iPod case, but it's just a skin. If you are looking for a case that will protect from falling onto concrete, I recommend iPod Armor made by Matias. You have to open it to control it, but it is solid.

Thats pretty hard though, because to protect the iPod from such a fall, the case would have to be pretty thick, and if it were thin enough to operate the iPod, it wouldn't be protective.
My advice: By the iPod Armor for skateboarding, and buy the eVo for daily use.

anywaze, you still can't be able to operate it with keeping a good level of tough protection.

just get a remote to use with the armour. its about the best protection you're going to get. you're not going to find anything that will protect as much as it, while still allowing access to the buttons. get a remote.

Jisi,
I think the Showcase would be a good option for you, i had the isee for my 20gb 2nd gen ipod, and it withstood a 4ft drop on to ceramic tile, and i believe the showcase is made of the same high impact plastic.
ya im prolly gona go with the showcase, thanks guys

Hmm. Isn't the showcase made out of like plastic, it might be able to withstand a 4ft drop but not a human body and a concrete wall sandwich. Maybe once... but it's done after that, I suggest the Armor really, and just use a remote. or just buy both :)
what about the lilipod?... i hear the armor is really hard to open... which isnt cool
It's gonna be the same with the lilipod.
Get the Matias iPod Armor and use a remote with it. It's your best option. Seriously. Nothing will protect your iPod like the Matias iPod Armor. It's the only thing that will protect it from a fall onto conrete, especially while skating. I'm dead serious. It'll die in the showcase, speck flipstand or any silicone type case. Get the iPod armor and be through with it. :)
The showcase will pretty much explode or crack open if you fall onto your iPod. The matias ipod armor is really for shock absorbtion. Around every side of the iPod is foam that'll absorb the force of the hit and transfer it harmlessly through the iPod. Anything else and your iPod is pretty much toast in my book.
hrmm guess ill have to get eh armor, or just not skate with it

Hmm, take a bit hit just as the hard drive is spinning and the shock could make the read/write heads rattle off your platters like a pea in a cement mixer!!!
I would say if you are that prone to falling over maybe you need to learn to whistle...;)
MadPict, i doubt it. There are numerous people who have been doing extreme sports using this case and none have had problems while using the case and falling. I'd say it'll protect it from any falls.
Well, the iPod is known to skip whilst being used for exercising, and I know if I was partaking in something which could involve sudden stops against the ground I would just not use a hard disk based MP3 player. The iPod Armor may well protect the exterior of the iPod but would you throw it against a wall while it is playing? Some of these skaters do some pretty scary things and hit the ground hard!!!
Just my view on it.
yeah... now rethinking it, it might not be such a good idea

a fall on something like that would prolly hurt the ipod

umm, yeah id have to agree... if you were snowboardin that's one thing, but skatin around with it you're just askin for trouble.. although, you could always get a block of matress foam and cut a slit and stick your ipod in it... that'll protect it.. but you'll look re-tarded... lol.. :D

Buy an extra flash mp3 player, the armor thing is good but is really expensive. You can probably get a cheap mp3 player for skateboarding.

lol....i snowboard...and i had no money...and im good with metals...so i made myself a cheap ### case out of some sheet metal...i just stuck some foam in there and it work great for me...i crushed the case between my ### and a rail and its got a little dent...held up for me...get the armor or have a broken pod (or be a cheap ### like me...but its no fun to be cheap)
