hey i know this has been sitting here a while... but if you're still interested, read the opinions on bitrates thread. i used 128 aac using iTunes 401 and quicktime 6.3 and am very happy. but overall, it depends on how many cds you have compared to your ipod space. i had just enough cds to fill the ipod, and i wanted everything on there, so the trade-off was worth it to me (not that i'm complaining, it sounds good). but if i had fewer cds or if i didn't care if they all fit, i'd surely step up to 160 aac. just my opinion, of course :P

i don't think craig was referring to normal aac.
He was talking about aac plus, also known as high efficiency profile aac, which reaches cd quality around 64kbps thanks to SBR.
the last release of nero uses this technology, and it would be awesome to have support for it on the iPods, let's hope.....
