I just moved to the iPod, so that I could manage my 15GB Audible library from one device.

I'm still getting used to the playlist idea and I had a question for the experts:

I would like to create two Playlists, "New" and "Heard" that each contain new and unheard items respectively (duh).

The way I do it now, I have to move a heard item to the "Heard" playlist and then delete it from the "New" list. Also, if I don't pay attention, I can create duplicate items in either playlist.

Is there a way to MOVE items between playlists and REMOVE duplicates?

Thanks,

Audible Junkie :-)

From the File menu, create two new Smart Playlists. Name them as you wish.

1) Select Kind Contains Audible

2) Select Play Count is 0 ("greater than zero" for the second one)

Thanks Paranoya, that should work.

One question though:
When does the counter go from 0 to 1? Just after the audiobook has been started, or after it's been completed?

BTW, playlists don't really contain books or duplicates of books. Playlists get your books or songs from your library where the only copy is kept. So, playlists have very little impact on memory use.

Actually, I have no idea. But I like your idea and I think its worth playing around to figure out. Let me know if you figure something out. I might have to try it too.

It looks to me like play count stays at zero until the book is finished, but I'm not sure.

A way to accomplish the goal of having two playlists, one a "heard" list and the other a "new" list would be to use other smart playlist criteria, such as date added or ratings. I'd probably use the ratings criteria, and establish a playlist condition that places all rated books in the "heard" list and ones w/o ratings in the "new" list. Then, I'd rate all the books that I'd listened to so that they'd be moved to the "heard" list, leaving all unrated books in the "new" list.

Here's another way.

Make two smart playlists. Both are kind contains Audible.

Then click "match only checked songs" for one and leave it blank for the other. The uncheck the books you've already read.

I used the last method and I'm one happy camper.

Thanks for all the help folks!

I only needed one smart playlist to identify the unread stuff (i.e. checked), but once I went through my 260 titles once, that created a sizeable and usable collection that's now sitting on my iPod.

I'm starting to like this gadget more and more...

Now if it could only tell me about my appts, I could take it anywhere....
