just got my ipod mini, and after hearing that the apple buds aren't too great, i've been looking around for some inexpensive earbuds/in ears...and it seems like i should go with either sennheiser's mx500 or koss's the plug...any suggestions?

on a side note...i read in another thread that when getting the mx500's buying foam replacements from radioshack, i went to their website, and i noticed something interesting...

These look a lot like the The Plug headphones... (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F007%5F003%5F003%5F000&product%5Fid=33%2D1167)
but then again it says its of the radioshack brand...

i'm not sure but this could be the mx500? (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F007%5F003%5F003%5F000&product%5Fid=33%2D1991)
but then again i'm not quite sure...just a guess especially after it said it has an inline volume control  and finding that koss look-alike...but it does say its of the optimus brand...

think if i happened to go to radioshack and picked up either of those there'd be a big difference from the "official?" headphones? well that question is mainly only if i get the mx500's, cause i'd be going to radioshack for the replacement foams, and might as well kill two birds with one stone while i'm at it.

feel free to recommend any other pair of headphones as well...but then that makes this thread like a lot of other ones ;)

I'd prefer if you told me why you're voting for whichever one, but if you just wanna vote, thats fine too, just don't forget to vote!

Those are not rebadged MX500s. Don't look the same, case is not the same compared to mine.

If you're going to spend $20 at RatShack for unknowns, why not go for the MX500s at the same $$? They sound great, guaranteed, and you can still buy the replacement earbud foams from Radio Shack if ya gotta buy something there.

I also tried the $10 Phillips He 215 (HE245 w/o vol. control), some said that they were pretty decent. What a dissapointment. I bought them for "work phones" but they are gathering dust.

Earbuds may look the same, but what a difference in sound from one to the next! The Senns are a bargain.

I would go for the Senn MX500 too. $17 shipped from newegg.com. The inline volume control is not a hassle because it is only a little thicker than the cable. You wouldnt even notice its there. Im sure you will be disappointed if you 'killed 2 birds with one stone' on this. I will bet my left nut that the MX500 is way f'in better than what RS has and its all worth the wait of getting it shipped to you than buying the 'other' right away. Dude, take my and tanakasan's advice - get the MX500 + RS foamies!

As i come from germany i don't know RS but i think you should get some MX500. I bought mine some days ago and they blew me away :) I never got better sound from earphones.

I have both. The Sennheiser mx500 is good, but The Plug is better. Better bass, clearer sound and the foam blocks the environment noise well, so you don''t have to turn the pod way up in a noisy environment, which will in the long run save your ears.
I threw away the foams that came with it and punctured a pair of earplugs, the fit is superb! 'Cause you can't really form the ones that came with it like an earplug, I had the problem that none of the foams really fit my right ear.
