Sony MDR-ED21LP Ear Bud Headphones

what do you guys think of these? think they may be a little better then the MX500's?

im looking for the best pair of ear buds (not in ear like ex71) around, at under 60 dollars. i know for that much i can get a nice pair od 71s but im really just looking for quality regualr earbuds.

anyone know anything about these? are their even earbuds that cost more that 30 bucks?

any feedback suggestions would be great, Thanx!

I think it is not good value for money. For the price, these just aren't good enough. A case of style over substance.

I disagree.

I actually own the ED21s. I was thinking about posting a recommendation on these boards about them.

They're pretty cheap (cheapest price I've seen in the UK is about ?15. I got mine duty free at the airport for ?12, which anyone in the UK will tell you is cheap no matter what you're buying)

Anyway, they're pretty unique in the way they work, and their styling is not for show.

A lot of people will want to buy 'in ear' buds, but not the canal phones. However, a lot of the time those in ear buds leak a lot of sound, especially, I find, in the low end. These are perfect for anyone who can tolerate buds, but not the half-way-to-your-brain feel of canal phones.

Sure, these things don't come close to real audiophile phones, but in the UK, you're looking at ?70 for those. Even EX71's are about ?30. I'm not sure how much these are wherever spark lives, but I'm guessing they won't be too much.

Anyway, compared to the apple stock buds, these things are infinitely better. I've recommended them to several other iPod owners and each and every one of them has thanked me, and uses them to this day.

Bare in mind, please, that I'm comparing these on a price-point. I have never used MX500 before, either, so I'm not saying they're better than them. But they're a decent set of cans for the money you pay in the UK.

I loved my MDR ED21LP phones. In fact i used them for 4 years on my portable CD player and for 2 weeks on my Ipod Mini before the right side died :(

I thought they were very good. A kind of halfway house between ear buds and in-ear canal phones.

Im trying to decide between buying these again or the MX500. I already have white sony ex71sl but i want a pair of black/blue head phones for when i dont want to draw attention to myself.

They definitely sound louder than my sony ex71. The Sensitivity of the MDR ED21 are much higher.

sounds good, and exactly what I'm looking for at the moment.
what about the ed31's? any difference other than the price?

There are some differences, gold plated plug, bigger drivers....

Even sony can't get away with charging double the price just by increasing the model number, surely?? ;)

I just got a pair of these MDR-ED21LP earbuds. I find them to be comparable if not slightly better than the Senn MX300s I was using. They deliver good, clear highs and decent lows at good volume too. I'd say the highs are better than the MX300 and the lows are about the same but you get maybe 20% more volume at the same setting. Actually the treble is nice on the Senn but putting the foams on the MX300 attenuated the highs a bit (they dont fit well without foams on my ears).

They fit well for me, but I suspect that it will be a hit a miss thing depending on the users ears. :)
