I wish apple would provide a type of AVLS option (auto volume limiting system) like sony and other manufacturers do on their products. If they did this , us european owners would be able to decide ourselves whether or not we want our ipod's max volume curtailed or not. Also this sort of implementation would be a good round about for frances archaic max volume laws on portables.

I never fully understood why we have those AVLS switches. If you want the volume to be quieter, why dont you just lower the volume and leave it on hold?

from what i gather it is also to getaround laws in some countries like france.
