can anyone tell me from experience are the in ear types ex71s etc, bad for jogging and working out? im hearing all these things about a stethascoping effect and how you can hear the cord when it rubs up against you.
another thing that concerns me is the sound isolation when jogging. tho i want a good quality pair of phones, i feel like sound isolation could be a serious danger while jogging around town, what do you all think?
btw what do u think the BEST ear bud style, but not sound isolating headphones are?
thanx all!

Just got through working arms then running 5 miles (treadmill since iPod is not good for REAL running). I have Shure E3's and the over the ear almost eliminates all cord noise.

I have the sony mdr-ex70s ex71sl earbuds. the 71sl has an extension and the connection sometimes hits my arm while running. the ex70s are the longer cord ones and it works great for running. there is no stetascope experience listening to either. they are perfect for running bc they will not fall out of your ears. I have used the 70s now for at least three years, running 2-4 days a week, about 5 miles.

What you want depends on your preference of style and your price range.
Earbuds: Sennheiser MX400/500 - The difference between the MX 400 and MX500 is that the MX500 has inline volume control. Excellent sound for the price. $20.
Earbuds: Sony MDR-E888SP/LP The difference between the SP and LP models is the length of the cord. Incredible high-end clarity, moderate low range response. $60, but must be imported from Hong Kong. You can find these on Yaoho! Shopping and ebay.
Earbuds: Bang and Olufsen A8s By and far, the most stylish, comfortable, and lightweight earbuds you can find. You can wear these for hours and not realize that they are on. Not an economical purchase in terms on pure sound quality, but excellent value if you want something sylish, unique-looking, lightweight, and will not fall off your head. Excellent high end and mid range, moderate low-end response (mostly due to limitations of physical size, rather than design). $100 on ebay new, $170 new retail.
Earbuds Etymotics/Sure canalphones. These are the best earbuds in terms of sound quality and value, but will isolate a great deal of sound. If sound isolation is a plus for you, check these out... especially the Etymotics ER4Ps (the P means low impedance designed especially for portable use). ER4Ps are $220. If sound isolation is a no-no, ignore these
Behind-the-ear phones Koss KSC55 Street-style behind-the-head headband, excellent high end, good low-end. By far, the best value out of the bunch, but you must decide if you like the street-style headband. $20
Clip-on earphones Koss KSC50 Same drivers as the KSC55, same sound, except these clip directly on the ear rather than using a headband.
In general, I would say that earbud-type phones are poor for jogging unless you have some way of securing the cord to your body (like a tight shirt). The cord will swing around and tug at the cord. Some people don't mind, but I find it annoying. The only exception is the clip-on type headphones, like the KSC50s and the Bang and Olufsen A8s. My personal choice of portable headphones is the Bang and Olufsen A8s due to comfort, unique style, sound quality, and non-isolating design. My personal choice of home-use headphones is a JMT PiMeta amp --> Grado SR-225s.
Good luck with your purchase.
I have the Sony E2's and E3's. Love them both for inside and outside workouts including jogging as they both tighten up behind the back of your head so the cord does not get in the way. The cords are some of the best around as they do not transmit any outside noise. For the money the E2's are the best at 79.00....you can find them at the Guitar Center or on line.
