Hello,
I have a 8GB 2G Touch, and just picked up a 32GB 3G touch.
Has anyone noticed a HUGE difference in Brightness between the two Generations? At mid settings, the 2G is significantly brighter than the 3G. Is this normal? If it's not, this one needs to go back.

Okay. I took the new touch back to the Apple Store. They agreed that the Brightness seemed low and happily switched it out for a new one. No problem.
I took the new one home and it is exactly the same! So is this true of all of the 3rd Gen iPod touch? Has no one compared the Brightness between generations? I would love to hear from anyone else on this. If no one has the same issue, I will happily take this one back as well. I know I can just ramp up the Brightness setting, but that will eat into my battery life.
Any responses out there?

Is there any difference if you compare them with the brightness set to 100%?
I would suspect the difference between the 2 is the back light's hardware and the way they may be calibrated in software. Just because you have to turn one up to a higher setting does not necessarily mean it's going to use more power. They may both be using the same amount of power when set to the same physical brightness even though the settings are different. The newer hardware may even be a little more efficient with its power and use a little less.
I would test the battery life using a playlist of long movies on both devices, if you see a substantial loss of battery life I would take it back.

The 1st Gen touch has already found a new home, but if I recall they were close at 100%. Not exactly, but closer.

After reading this post I compared My 1st Gen Touch and My Son's 2nd Gen Touch to my new 3rd Gen Touch. Results....Both the Gen 1 and 2 Touches were brighter at 50%. There was also a slight color shift on the 3rd Gen. At 100% it seems to ballance out. I took my Gen 1 Touch to the Apple store and compared it to a few of the new Touches and the results were the exact same as above. It seems that is just the way they make them now.
And it seems that people worry about the stupidest things.
Can you see the screen? Yes, so why bother.....................

It's probably just the way they make them now. Don't worry

Yes - but my brightness goes all the way to eleven!
