my 1st apple let-down in 10 or so years..........

i've been an avid apple supporter since 1994/5 sometime when i bought my
first powermac 7100/66. i've since upgraded. i was an Avid editor for a while
and the powermac 8500 was basically my bread and butter for 3 years and a
workhorse it was. love osX. love unix. love ipod. this gen3 30gb is my first
ipod, and since i received it a month ago, i've been in music nirvana. it's
wired in my car and the ety er-6s rock! apple music store, loved it. $200
later, still love it. my extra dock for work has been on order since 5/8, my
birthday nonetheless. i just got it. WHERE THE @#$% IS THE CABLE! 49
bucks with shipping for a plastic ipod stand, with no cable. pretty box though.
believe me, i'm all for aesthetic packaging. so i'm hooked on apple, there's
nothing i can do. my daily life revolves around it. it's all that's good in my
wired life. $27 bucks is all i need. bull#$%! for the first time in my 10 year
loyalty to apple, i feel let-down. how much for a firewire to ipod CABLE!
whatever you want, i have to pay it now. it reminds me of the time when i
saved my car-wash money to get a new star wars whatever and when i got
home i read the most dreaded and heartbreaking words in my 10 year old
life.... "action-figure not included". my apologies for the rant but i had to
vent a bit.

The cable isn't supposed to come with the dock - they expect you to use the cable that came with your iPod in the first place with the dock. Now that would be a pretty good deal if the cable came with that dock for that price, cause the cable by itself is $19.

Also, I have a question for you, if you don't mind - did the 30GB fit in the dock? I have a 30GB and i checked the dock that came with the 15GB, and it didn't fit.

There are actually two different dock sizes. One for the 10/15GB, and one for the 30GB. You can obviously fit the smaller ipods into the 30GB dock (but it feels a little wobbly...and scary...), though def not the other way around. Im curious, when you ordered, did you hv to tell them which size ipod you would be buying the dock for?

:rolleyes: Riiight....I don't think you tried the different docks in store. The 30GB is a different thickness than the 10/15GB. The dock that comes with the 15GB has a smaller hole that fits only the 10 and 15GB ipods. The dock that came with the 30GB is wider so the 30GB fits.

The reason why they have 2 different docks is most likely so some moron won't break the dock connector off if they jiggle their skinny 10 or 15GB iPod around in a larger dock like the 30GB.

I bought the 10gig, and ordered the dock separately. The ipod came in May, but I had to wait until this week to get the dock.

You actually get two covers with the dock, one that fits the 10/15, and the other that fits the 30. They come wrapped in the same type of clear plastic as the ipod did. You then snap it over the base, with the connector fitting through a slot in the cover.

You don't get an extra cable, as someone else posted, but for $50, you really should.

I ordered a dock and cable way back, and Applestore didn't offer a choice in docks. Cable showed up a few weeks back, but dock did not ship until 6/12, hopefully I'll have it in a few. Was sweating if it would fit my 15GB, but now I know the story, and can stop worrying...
I love my iPod, take it everywhere, music is fun again. Now if someone would just provide a Music Store equivalent for us Win folks, life would be nearly perfect.

the dock device is the same for 10/15 and 30 gig models, but the cover (the white) is different... the 30 has a bigger opening...
