I'm an old coot with an iPod Touch (32mb, 1G w/ 3.0). After the 3.0 upgrade all seemed fine with a few wierd occasional things like iphone detected when I tried to sync, etc. A reboot of the PC always seemed to fix these issues.

Anyway, last night the volume slider "disappeared" from both my music & video apps - volume is fixed at a very low level. I tried a reboot (power & home buttons pushed until Apple logo appears), but that did not seem to help.

Any help in resolving this would be appreciated.

TIA - Tom

Some additional info -
"reset all settings" under options had no effect.
performed both a restart & a reboot but no effect
when a song is playing, the area under the beginning, play/pause, next icons is kind of smudged - like a reflection of part of the alblum cover
When a video is playing, touching the screen does bring up the controls but no volume slider is present. The top half of the control box where the slider should be is "lighter" than the bottom half.

Same thing happened to me but a reboot brought back. This happened after removing from my BMW iPod interface.

Hi !
I think that's totally normal and what you described is not a problem. The 3.0 OS seems to recognize what is filling the jack port of the Touch.

If your iPod is connected to a soundstation, your BMW interface or whatever, the volume slider disappears because you're note controlling the volume directly with the iPod.

But just use your earphones and plug them : the volume slider normally reappears. ;)

Thx, Spha - You hit it on the head. Last evening when I first noticed this, I must not have had the ear buds plugged in all the way. As such, the Touch did not recognize they were plugged in and did not display the slider. Then when I went back to the computer, I had wrapped up the ear buds and they were not attached. Plugging them in all the way fixed my problem - or maybe it was the restarts & reboots. In any case, I'm good to go once again.

Thanks, but when I unplug it from the BMW interface, shouldn't the slider come back especially since I have a 2G and I want to use the speakers? This was what I was trying to do. I went and unplugged it from my glovebox and brought it into the house to watch some You Tube video with the built in speaker. No sound and no slider so I reboot and it came back. No biggie as I will not do this all that much, but it could be a bug where the slider will not come back unless I stick in my headphones.
