It has been just 5 days since I got my 30GB ipod and it got scratched on the screen .. so I decided to clean it up with some alcohol based solvent .. as I read somewhere in the forums that it can be done using alcohol.
I went into my lab.. as I remember that we had some alcohol based cleaning solution .. and I took a small cloth, dipped in the solution and applied on the screen. And the white paint or the plastic.. I dont know.... has dissolved and is now all over the LCD screen.
I think it was a thinner that was in the can.. that I applied.. and I did not know it was a thinner.:( . Now my LCD screen is all smeared with a white paint kinda thing.. and it wouldn't go.
Someone please help.!!! Its been just 5 days and I cant believe I screwed it up already.
Thanks in advance.

I think you're hosed guy. I use alcohol to clean the touchpad on my 20gb, not the whole ipod.
If you bought it by credit card check the terms. Often better credit cards will cover things like loss, damage, etc for the first few months after a purchase.
Good luck!

the normal warranty definitely doesn?t cover such an happenstance. do you have a tap or the best buy equivalent? i don?t think your ipod can be "repaired". try ipodcleaner or brasso (carefully & moderately. brasso is a metal polish). i seriously doubt you?ll be able to remove the clouding on your screen though. if all else fails, call apple and see if you can weasel out a replacement. my sympathies.

I bought using American Express. Do you think they will cover? Anyway.. I will check the terms. Thanks for your help. I will try ipod cleaner in the meantime.
Someone told me that denatured alcohol would help. I want to make sure before I try anything stupid again. Please let me know.

I called up American Express and looks like I am covered under Purchase Protection Plan. They are sending a claim form. Does anyone know how this works? Do they inspect the damage before they can approve my claim?
I tried Brasso.. but it did not help. I feel terrible.
Hey.. Do you guys think Denatured alcohol would help? Please help me.
And thank you guys for your response. I would have never known that credit cards would cover such kind of damages.

What about using the stuff you used in the first place, to make it removable again ? Would that work if you only do it on the screen?
