Iphone Help

I have a blackjack 2 right now, the phone is broken from water damage and it is not time for me to upgrade yet. I have the chance to buy a brand new 3G iphone from a friend, the phone is not jailbroken or unlocked he can do that though if needed. I am wondering if I buy the phone can I go to at&t and transfer my number and add a data plan or will they forbid this?

Buy a new phone at a discount, if there still is one and pay the termination fee.

And for your doubts regarding at&t why don't you call them and enquire regarding this.
