Pardon the newbie question, but I recently purchased a 3GS running on AT&T. I was previously running unlocked phones on T-Mobile, so naturally stayed away from updating software. Can I safely update software on my new phone without worrying about losing anything?

Why would it be highly unlikely...

When you sync your iPhone to iTunes it backs it up each time, when you upgrade your software it also backs it up. I upgraded my iPhone 3G to 3.0 and didnt lose anything, iTunes takes care of everything for you. Of course even though it worked fine for me, i cant personally guarantee no flaws if you try anything.

When I switched from the 3G phone to a 3Gs, I restored from a previous backup of the 3G and everything but the music came over. All settings, alarms, apps, contacts, etc. The music wasnt an issue because its all in iunes anyway and was a cinch to copy back over, plus gave me an opportunuty to refine what was on the phone (removing some artists i seldom listen to to make room for newer stuff i do. Hope this helps.

I think ahMEmon meant highly unlikely that there would be problems.

Thanks to both of you for replying...

Your question was roughly "Can i upgrade my phone without worrying about losing anything" to which he said "Highly Unlikely", if he meant highly unlikely you would lose anything then he should have said that, because just saying highly unlikely to that question leads you to believe he means its highly unlikely you would be able to upgrade without worrying about losing anything. :shake:
