Are there any differences between the Sennheiser MX400 and MX500, other than the volume control?

The color and price are diffrent. 400 is Black and 500 is Blue and blue costs more.

They're identical with regards to sound/drivers (from my understanding anyway--I've only used the 400's), if that's what your're after....Personally I'd just go with the 400's.

only difference is the 500s have a volume adjuster and the 400s dont. i use the 400s since my ipod is on arm or belt... some ppl that put in their pockets prefer the 500s for the volume without taking the ipod out, but i've heard the 500 buds fall out more due to more weight on the cord.

i got MX500 and the buds never fall out of my ears. the volume control isn't that heavy at all, really

I've had a pair of MX500's for two weeks now. They are driving me nuts as they fall out ALL the time. I've tried them with foam and without, no joy at all.

What's with the Radio Shack foams that people have mentioned, are they sticky or something ;)

I also notice no appreciable sound difference between the original ipod phones, although I didn't change for sound reasons, I changed so that I don't stand out as an iPod carrier.

Transducer principle- dynamic, open
Cable length- 1 m
Frequency response (headphones)- 18.....20000 Hz
THD, total harmonic distortion- 1 %
Sound pressure level (SPL)- 125 dB
