Hey all

Having sort of a new problem with Podcasts on my new iPhone 3GS. I usually manage things manually, but I noticed whenever I plug back into iTunes and do anything kind of file transfer to the phone, it will automatically put any Podcasts I have on the phone back to the beginning even if I had been listening to it on the phone and was saved later in the episode.

Is this a bug of some kind or is there a fix for it? I plug my phone into iTunes alot for various reasons, even if it has nothing to do with Podcasts I may have on the phone and I want thier position saved till I am DONE with them!

Thanks!

How are you listening to them? Before 3.0 I had been using a smart playlist to listen to my podcasts. After I upgraded I found that podcasts or music wouldn't necessarily play in the order I had set. This, for some reason, would lead to situations where I was listening to item 6 of 3, for example, in a playlist. When this happened, podcasts that I didn't finish would forget where I left off. When I switched to a static playlist, the problem went away.

I hope Apple fixes this with the next update.

I just listen to them on my iPhone when walking around, I usually have one episode from a show on my phone at a given time. It's just when I plug back into iTunes, even if I do absolutely nothing related to that podcast in anyway, it resets it back to the beginning.

Lately I've just been trying to finish episodes and avoid plugging in if possible. Kind of annoying, but works. Since getting my 32Gb iPhone, I'm seeing how I like it as my ONLY iPod device. I'm so use to having my 60 GB iPod5G with everything on it I won, but coming to realize I don't listen to a 3rd of the stuff on it, I made a playlist of songs I actually like and it took up far less space so I'm trying my music...and podcasts...on my phone only. I just wish Podcasts would save thier place consistantly!

Yeah. I used to use a 60 GB ipod and it behaved that way too. Annoying. Some of the podcasts I listen to are 3 hours long or more, and I just got in the habit of noting the time left on whatever I was listening to before syncing. Last year I switched to an 80 GB Zune and was pleasantly surprised that it remembered my podcast positions after a sync. Actually, the Zune was better all around for Podcasts. Much easier to configure the individual podcas behavior to you liking.

I'm also now trying to use my new 32 GB iphone as my sole device. If there's going to be a deal breaker that sends me back to the Zune it'll be the podcast behavior, because that's what I listen to most of all.

I've not actually tried Podcasts with my 60 Gb in awhile. You make me wonder if it might have some Podcast problems too now. Maybe it's an issue with the current version of iTunes. In the past the 60 Gb always kept my Podcasts right where they were but who knows now. I know my iPhone sure doesn't if I plug into iTunes with an episode incomplete.
