I own both the Skullcandy FMJ, as well as a pair of Etymotic hf2's. Neither work properly with my new 3GS. When either set is plugged in, I get random, sporadic volume fluctuation, and I can watch the volume slider on the 3GS slide all the way down, to full volume. Also, the click button doesn't work, either to pause audio, or to pick up/end calls.

The new stock Apple headset bundled with the 3GS now offers in-line volume control. I suspect that adding support for headset volume control has broken compatibility with older 2.5G and 3G headsets. In-line volume control is a nice feature, but I'm bummed that my pricey headsets are now useless with the new 3GS.

I'm having the same problem. I have$ 400.00 Bose headphones that dont work with the iPhone 3GS, frustrating to no end. I refuse to spend money on more headphones for the 3GS. I also find the ringtones I have ar e no longer stereo or the same quality as my music files on the iPhone. With the 3G the ringtones came through just like the mp3's or AAC I had stored in ipod section of iPhone...now they sound like they are being played through a can.
