I like the idea of audio books but am not sure how I would get along with it on my iPod.
Are there any books available for me to download and test?

Harry Shearer's Le Show (not a book, but a radio show) is free on Audible.com. It's an hour-long program.
To join Audible.com, it'll cost you $7.50 for a month; you'll get two programs, a book and a subscription. You can cancel anytime, so you're committment costs you only the first month.
It's really worth it to me. My primary use of my iPod is Audible.com.
