Yeah, but still I think you can do that... What Apple really needs is a player that can be used as a picture viewer...

Actually, you cannot do this, though interest has been expressed for this feature (transferring data directly into the iPod without going throug a computer). The iPod being used as a picture viewer on the other hand would involve extensive hardware modifications.

It would surprise me if this could be done without a hardware upgrade, as I think both devices in this case are "slave" devices, and neither has the capability of being a USB/FireWire master/controller or whatever the correct term is.

not to mention the extended ware and tear on the disk itself if it was used to store and retrieve images all the time
