Why is iPod backing up when im syncing???

Hi,

Today I added TWO songs into my itunes library, and when I went to sync it and it started backing up!!!

It's still backing up as I am writing this.

Anyone know whats the problem?

It backs up the iPod all the time. It's an incremental backup, so it is generally pretty quick, but i've noticed sometimes it takes a lot longer, even though I haven't changed much. What you're seeing is normal behaviour.

If your iPod Touch did not backup to iTunes, then you would have nothing to restore from if you had an issue with the iPod's hardware or software. If you are using a Mac running Leopard and an external hard drive, then Time Machine is backing up your hard drive regularly. This is a good thing. Nothing is worse than having your data go down the tubes due to a hardware or software malfunction and have all your data go down the tubes with it.

You should have two kinds of backup. Time Machine, or something like it, to cover a loss of your primary hard drive or an operating system failure and an offsite archival backup of your important files.
