Hi there...

Looking for your recommendations on headphones with the following specs:

Y chain (not behind the ear)
In ear ear budgs
Price under $100
Best quality for the price/specs

Thanks -- I appreciate the ideas!

The only thing that would make these more ideal would be cloth-covered cables rather than the always rubbery Sennheiser ones. All the more reason for wanting asymmetric: if one wire went around the back of the neck it would stick and cause tugging, particularly in the presence of perspiration, even more than usual. This is especially a problem with the hugely popular (but sonically inferior) CX300s.

Despite this small nag, the CX500 is a great choice for the price. Superior solid bass (always reducible, whenever excessive, by adjusting EQ and/or bud position in ear canal); clear, transparent mids; and sparkling treble.

I'd go a pair of Ultimate Ears Metro.Fi (insert number from 150 to 200 depending on local pricing) or if able to stretch the budget, go up a level.

Check out www.ultimateears.com for model range. I certainly haven't looked back since switching to UE's.
