View Full Version : Looking for asymmetric earphones

Hi guys
I've spent ages looking on the web for my ideal earphones and I can't seem to find what I need. Can you help me out?
I'm looking for:
- earphones (canalphones)
- that sound decent (Sony EX71LP or better) but not necessarily amazing
- that have asymmetric cables
- that have a split cable (ie cable extension)
- are not the Philips SHE9501 (which I already own and I don't like)
If, as a bonus, they have iPhone/mic support that would be ideal, but I may be asking a bit much.
At this stage I am open to any price options...I'm desperate! I'd like to think after 4 years and 4 pairs of EX71's there is something else a little better that meets my needs. Even the Asian-market EX76LP does not have a short cable.
Thanks in advance

I believe the new Shures are just what you're looking for, and instead of a normal extension you can use the microphone attachment
When I'm at my computer I'll throw some links
http://store.shure.com/store/shure/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/productID.107013700
http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/reviews/entry/shure-se102mpa-sound-isolating-stereo-headset (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/reviews/entry/shure-se102mpa-sound-isolating-stereo-headset/)
If those are not your style, you can get any other pair, such as the http://store.shure.com/store/shure/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/productID.121026300#t and a microphone cable seperate, there's a few brands out there such as the Shure MPA-3C (http://store.shure.com/store/shure/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/productID.105498400) and the Griffin Smarttalk (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/smarttalk)

Thanks for the links.
I've looked at these. If I am correct, none of the Shure line have asymmetric cords, although they do have the split (short/long) cable.
Sorry if my explanation was clumsy.
cheers

Would the Sony EX85LP's fit the bill?
I've seen pics on the internet, and there appear to be two different versions - one with a long cable and one with a short cable and an extender. I think one comes with the Sony Walkman, and another is retail, perhaps?
The version on Amazon.co.uk just talks about it being a single cable length, but the (customer) pics shows a cable with an extender.
Confused...

Took a quick look under Sony's site, and here you go

Here's iLounge's review too, showing no detachable

Depends, usually it's online, buy you'll have to wait for it to arrive, and some people are impatient.
I try and do my shopping on newegg and I look for free shipping deals. I pay no tax, no shipping, and usually a cheaper base price

I managed to buy a pair of EX75 SL's today from a little store in Tottenham Court Rd, London.
Maybe I got the whole SL and LP thing wrong, but these have the detachable cord AND the asymmetrical earphone cords.
Like the iLounge review, they are a decent improvement over the EX71's.

Very happy - got what I wanted!

After a week of use, I can confirm these earphones have a really awesome price to performance ratio. Great value and sound!
