Basically my computer died so I had to restore it back to a certain point. I have restored it back to a point before I had used my iPod touch on the computer. I have all my music backed up externally but I am concerned that when I connect it to the computer it will wipe everything? Basically I have a number of applications on it that contain data that I do not want to lose. When I plug it in to the computer, the computer will not recognise it so will it just wipe all my music and applications.

What can I do?

Cheers

I'm pretty sure that as long as you have the same account and computer authorized on iTunes, your applications will be safe. I've recently moved everything to Windows 7 and when I went to sync it redid all my music/videos and such, but my applications were only transferred over. I didn't lose any data on my applications

Sparkwalker,

You should be all set since you have a backup. Reinstall iTunes naturally, replace your music in your "my music" folder, and get your music running on your pc.

With it all up & running you should be good to go without worries when you do the first post-restore sync.

I did that. It wiped all my applications so I lost all that information.

When you remade the new library, did you include your iTunes folder, where the applications are stored?

More importantly, did you back up and restore your .itl file, or did you use the .itl file from an earlier point in time (before you had the Touch)? I think the .itl file contains backup information about your Touch, in addition to all the details that make up your iTunes library. So if you auto-sync'd to an old .itl file that has no information about your Touch, I'm not surprised your apps got wiped.

In addition to backing up the native files of your media, always backup the .itl file ... it makes life so much easier if you ever have to start over.
